koko restaurant review

no pictures as i did not bring my camera to koko.

we had an early dinner at koko restaurant on friday night. we were the first ones to arrive and the restaurant was empty. the good thing is : we were given a table facing the yarra river which the view was amazing. we had the california roll for starters. frankly, it was good but not great. generous servings of the avocado but where the hell are the ommelete and crab? The carlifornia roll was much better in the past as i recalled how the carlifornia roll melted in your mouth. honestly, for the price of $22 for 8 pieces, i rather give the carlifornia roll a miss as theres much better carlifonia roll for a cheaper price.

Moving on to the appetizers, I had the hotate misoyaki which was grilled scallops with miso mustard saucee topped with microherbs. And the taste was perfect. The scallops were perfectly cooked, tender and the sauce had a hint of sweet yet perfect for the palate. And i love the surprise! spinach underneath the scallops. I offered one scallop to a friend but he refused. Yay! One more scallops for me!!! :) Costs $22 for three scallops.

I had the wagyu yanagawa for the mains. This is absolutely heavens. The presentation was poor as it looked like simply stirfry topped with an egg and couple of leeks. However, the taste saved the presentation. The first bite of the wagyu basically melts on top of your tounge and its flavour burst into your mouth leaving you linger for seconds. It was so good that I had to close my eyes and "detached myself from the surroundings" and just feel nothing but savouring the taste. Costs $49. Almost orgasmic. Not the price, of course but the food.

For desert, I had the creme burlee. Nice "marriage" between the creme burlee and lychee sorbet. The creme burlee melts in your mouth but frankly, it was too egg-y to eat the creme burlee alone. Costs $15.

the decor was simple but it has a nice quality. it leaves you peace, calm and tranquil.
And one thing I rave about is the lack of music. It is much better to socialize without the music overpowering the conversation.

The bill ended up approximately $190 for both people. And its worth it.
